Hi! I’m Sarah. I’m a body image and eating disorder therapist.
I’m also the founder of Reclaim Therapy.
I help women who feel stuck in disordered eating cycles heal their relationship with their mind, body and food.
You deserve to take up space in a world that’s obsessed with keeping you small.
You deserve so much more than another diet, another go around with your eating disorder, another coach that promises to self-help you to glory.
You deserve healing.
Recovery from eating disorders and body loathing is hard work.
And, it’s deep work. That typically extends so far beyond the food and simply changing your thoughts about your body.
I know you’ve tried to find your way out of the behaviors, the obsession, self-loathing.
You’ve tried so, so hard.
And you’re exhausted.
I know, because I’ve been there too.
I’m passionate about helping women heal from the trauma of living in a dieting obsessed culture and from being taught over and over again that smallness is the way out.
I Believe…
The ability to feel safe in your body has been disrupted over and over again. By our culture, by family patterns, by previous and/or reoccurring trauma.
Our culture has an eating disorder. Which results in being continuously exposed to and triggered by the very thing you’re fighting so hard to recover from.
All bodies are worthy of liberation from oppression.
The longer we fear fatness, the longer we’ll stay stuck.
Even the loudest, harshest, seemingly destructive parts of us are trying to protect us from further hurt.
Reconnecting to the wisdom of your body is possible. And healing.
You’re worthy of living compassionately in your body in the here and now.
That relationships and connection heal.
How I work…
My top priority is building a relationship that gives you what you need- you’re the driver of this ship, you get to decide where we go.
Here are some possibilities:
We’ll talk about cyclical behaviors and practice ways to cope, to emotionally regulate and to access grounding in the present moment.
We’ll honor and listen to all parts of you- yes, even the eating disorder. We’ll work with the parts of you, not against them.
As you’re ready, we can look at research, at the cultural origins of body-shame, at the origins and evolution of your personal body story.
We’ll externalize the blame you’ve placed on yourself for so long, so that you can reclaim the narrative of your life.
We’ll lean into your brain and your body’s hardwired ability to trust, to heal, to co-regulate, to reprocess your traumas and to communicate needs.
I’m a trauma informed, fat-positive therapist.
I work from a weight inclusive, health at every size framework. My work is rooted in feminist theory, body liberation, relational cultural theory, non-diet research and my belief that you have the right to determine your treatment and the way you live in and treat your body.
